CAFE NUOVO,
One Citizens Plaza, Providence, 421-2525.Established by the owners of Capriccio, this is one of the city's must-go spots. The menu is an appealing nouvelle assortment with Caribbean, Far Eastern and a couple of Southwestern touches. Executive chef Ian Russo's palette of ingredients certainly isn't monochromatic. The yellowfin tuna ($16.50) comes with a wasabi butter sauce, Thai cucumber salad and green tea buckwheat noodles wrapped in nori seaweed. The porcini fettucine with grilled chicken breast ($13.95) also features the unmistakable flavors of shiitakes and criminis, along with broccoli rabe, all in a sauce of red and yellow tomato butter. Watch for the desserts bobbing by, Cafe Nuovo's contribution to the objet d'art ambiance.
